Document Authentication

I spoke with the agency today to find out status. Some of our dossier documents are at the Guatemalan Consulate in California and some are in Illinois, why it was sepatated I don't know...but I guess we just trust that they know what they are doing. After Authentication then it goes to the embassy in Washington D.C., and at that point we will be officially on the waiting list for a refferal.
We hope to be making our first trip to Guatemala sometime towards the end of October or first part of November.

They gave me the name of the hotel we will be in in Guatemala City, The Clarion. They don't allow us to go out on our own, (only with armed guards)...Guatemala city really isn't a safe place from what I've read. We will have about 3 days with the baby (at that point she may be about 3 months old)...and then will have to give her back to the foster mother while the adoption is completed (about another 3 months).

Before or after the visit, we want to spend a few days in Antigua at this place. Antigua is a cool old spanish colonial city surrounded by 3 volcanos.

Hello, good luck with your adoption from Guatemala. My sister adopted a baby from Guatemala last year and I went with her on the pick-up trip, it was amazing and my niece is such a joy to our family. We stayed in the Marriott and the hotel was very nice, and they were extremely accommodating to families who were adopting. We had no problems while we were there, we hired a driver one day and went to Antigua, it was beautiful there. We also walked to the mall a few blocks from the Marriott without any problems.
