Just called Guatemala...
Katie got called into work tonight, and I was bored...so I thought I'd try calling Ava's foster mother, to see how Ava was doing. I was hoping to be able to hear her "talk" a little, or at least hear her cry, but at the same time I knew Katie would be bummed that I called while she was at work. Oh well, that's what she gets for going to work. :-) Unfortunately, Ava was sleeping, but the foster mother said that she was doing very good...she is very active and continues to be fascinated with her hands (something we noticed while we were down there). She also told me that they will being going to the doctor later this week for a check up. The connection wasn't that good, and neither is my Spanish so I'm sure I missed a few details...but she told us to try calling again in the next day or so, so we can hear her make some noise over the phone. She also mentioned that she has played Ava the CD we left with them, which had some stories we recorded before we went on the visit trip, (so she could hear our voices) and of course a WaxCactus song.
On the governmental front, we are staying hopeful. The Guatemalan adoption laws officially changed on January 1st. But supposedly we are 'grand-fathered' under the old laws. Still, with the Internet and tons of rumors on message boards from other families, we are hearing things that make us nervous. Some people that are getting a 'kick-out' from PGN (the agency that is currently reviewing our dossier) are finding that when they get resubmitted, are possibly going to have to be subject to the new Guatemalan Adoption Authority that doesn't even officially exist yet. Confusing,...Yes. This could cause major delays. But, if we don't get a Kick-out (due to a document problem) we are hoping we skate through.
I think the foster mother also told me that she was going to try and send me some pictures soon via email, that...or she said she was making Tamales for dinner, I don't know...once again, my Spanish isn't that good.
