Breaking News!

PGN! PGN! PGN!!! That's right, we got the call tonight that as of Nov. 30th we were officially in PGN!! This is the last big step in the process. IF all goes well PGN has been taking 8-12 weeks to get through. That is if we have no kickouts or problems. It is pretty common to get at least one if not more kickouts for something as little as a mistaken date or "blurry" signature. Those little mistakes are easy to fix and resubmitted to PGN the same day or within a few days by our lawyer. We can't tell you how excited we are!!! We were really hoping to be in PGN for our visit trip. Just nine more days and we will be on a flight to Guatemala to meet Ava for the first time. It still seems unreal sometimes, but in a little over a week, our dream will start to become a reality. She should be having a well baby check up on the 6th, so stay tuned for new pictures and an update!!! Here is a description of the PGN process to explain why it takes soo long (we got this description from another person's blog, hope they don't mind):

1) The file is submitted to the General Secretary’s Office (Procuraduria General de la Nacion-PGN) at a special window.
2) The person who submits the file gets a receipt that indicates date and time of submission. This receipt has PGN stamp on it.
3) Files are distributed amongst the advisers and sent to the designated advisor (second story of the building)
4) An officer receives the file and gives it to the designated advisor.
5) The advisor reviews the file and makes a resolution.
6) The advisor’s official is the person in charge of printing that resolution, he reviews it once more, prints it and gives it back to the advisor for his signature.
7) The advisor signs the resolution and gives it back to the official. The official then, sends the file to the Sub General Attorney’s office. Procedure at Sub General Attorney’s Office.

a) The Sub General Attorney’s Secretary receives the file
b) Then the file is given to the reviewer. The reviewer is an attorney who makes sure the resolution is in accordance to the Guatemalan Law regarding adoption.
c) File goes to the officials, who’s job is to review data (names, dates, etc.)
d) Then file goes back to the Sub Attorney General’s secretary.
e) Finally, it goes to the Sub General Attorney’s desk for final signature.

8) Then the file is send to the General Secretary’s office.
9) At last, the General Secretary puts the file in the window ready to be picked up.

Whew! That's a lot of paper pushing! But if it helps us get that baby faster I'm all for it.
